New deadline set for Algernon Sydney Sullivan award
posted February 10th, 2010A new nomination deadline of March 8 has been set for this year's Algernon Sydney Sullivan Award.
Meanwhile, the 2009 Presidential Awards, which recognize faculty and staff who made distinctive contributions at Duke in the past calendar year, are accepted through Feb. 19. The Presidential award is the highest award given to employees at Duke.
The New York Southern Society established the Algernon Sydney Sullivan award in 1925 in memory of Sullivan, a southerner who became a prominent lawyer, businessman and philanthropist in New York in the late nineteenth century. Approximately 50 southern universities present this award, which seeks to perpetuate the excellence of character and humanitarian service of Algernon Sydney Sullivan by honoring qualities such as selflessness, generosity of service, integrity and spirituality.
