Call for team captains for 2010 Start! Triangle Heart Walk
posted May 12th, 2010Duke Medicine will be stepping out and leading the way locally in the fight against heart disease and stroke, our nation’s No.1 and No.3 killers, at the American Heart Association’s upcoming 2010 Start! Triangle Heart Walk.
Duke Medicine will once again be a major sponsor of the Heart Walk. Money raised at this event will support the research and educational initiatives of the American Heart Association.
The 2010 Start! Triangle Heart Walk will take place on September 26 at the RBC Center in Raleigh and will be hosted by the Carolina Hurricanes. It will be filled with fun activities and heart health education for the entire family.
We would like to recruit 200 volunteers from all Duke Medicine facilities -- including all Duke University Health System hospitals (Duke University Hospital, Durham Regional Hospital and Duke Raleigh Hospital), clinics, ambulatory sites and support entities -- to serve as team captains. Being a team captain is an easy and fun way to make a difference in the fight against both heart disease and stroke. All that is needed is for you to recruit ten fellow walkers as your teammates and to raise $1,500 per team.
To sign up as a team captain, simply email Erica Lind (Erica.lind@heart.org) with the AHA. You may also contact one of the following Duke Medicine Heart Walk co-chairpersons with any questions you may have: Wanda Bride at bride001@mc.duke.edu or 681-7242, or Leatrice Short at marti088@mc.duke.edu or 419-5505.
The Duke Medicine Team Captain Kick-Off will be held on Tuesday, June 1 at 6:00 p.m. at The University Club, located in University Tower, 3100 Tower Boulevard. University Club is located on the 17th floor. At this special dinner, you will be provided with all the tools and information you need to get started as a team captain, so please sign up today.
