Committee formed for regular review of President Brodhead
posted January 20th, 2012The Board of Trustees has initiated a regular review of President Richard H. Brodhead at the mid-point of his second five-year term, board chair G. Richard Wagoner announced today.
The university has conducted regular reviews of the president, the senior officers and deans since 1982. Trustee Jack O. Bovender Jr. will chair the review committee, which will gather and distill information from faculty, students, staff, alumni, friends of the university and leaders in higher education. The other members of the committee are trustees Frank E. Emory Jr., Robin A. Ferracone, and John Harpham and Professors Linda M. Burton, Dona M. Chikaraishi and Gregg Trahey.
"We have found over the years that periodic, intense reviews like this are both valuable and healthy for the university, and for its leadership," Wagoner said. "It is important that we receive input from the many parts of the Duke community as well as review objective data about our progress toward the very ambitious goals we have set for ourselves."
The review will particularly focus on the effectiveness of President Brodhead in leading a complex and diverse institution, and in articulating a vision for its future among leading universities.
The Presidential Review Committee invites feedback from members of the university community by Feb. 20. Information provided to the committee will be held in confidence but may be reported without attribution as part of the summary report that will be submitted to the Board of Trustees.
