Not including skin cancers, the second leading cause of cancer-related deaths in the United States is colorectal cancer. Although fatal if not treated, it is also one of the most curable forms of cancer.
Colorectal cancer begins as a polyp. If polyps are identified and removed at an early stage, colorectal cancer can be prevented. Screening should begin at age 50 or sooner for those with a family history of colorectal cancer or colorectal polyps.
