DRAH’s Rosemary Brown honored by West Virgina University

West Virginia University’s School of Nursing has named Duke Raleigh Hospital Chief Nursing Officer Rosemary Brown, DNP, RN, NEA-BC, one of 50 Golden Graduates in commemoration of the founding of the university’s School of Nursing in 1960. Brown, a 1973 graduate of the university’s nursing program, and 49 other alumni will be honored for their achievements at the 50th Anniversary Homecoming Banquet on October 22, 2010, at the Erickson Alumni Center in Morgantown, WV.

“I am truly honored to receive this distinguished designation,” said Brown. “West Virginia University’s School of Nursing provided me with the necessary foundation to make a lasting impact on the lives of so many others, and I appreciate this recognition from my alma mater.”

As part of the award, Brown and other Golden Graduates will be featured in the 50th Anniversary Commemorative Edition of the School of Nursing magazine.

A nurse since 1973, Brown received her Bachelor of Science in nursing from West Virginia University and her Masters of Science in Nursing from Duke University. In 2010, she received her Doctorate of Nursing Practice from the Duke University School of Nursing.

Since joining Duke Raleigh Hospital in 1997 as Director of Quality Resource Management/Neuroscience Services, Brown has received numerous honors. She was a Johnson & Johnson Wharton Fellows Nurse Executive in 2007 and named one of Triangle Business Journal’s 2010 Healthcare Heroes. She was also recognized as a North Carolina Great 100 Nurse in 1998 and has published articles in current editions of “Clinical Practice of Neurological and Neurosurgical Nursing.” Under Brown’s leadership at Duke Raleigh Hospital, the hospital’s nursing program received designation as a Nurse Magnet facility by the American Nurses Credentialing Center and the distinction as the first hospital in North Carolina to achieve the Hallmarks of Healthy Workplaces Award.

Brown is also an adjunct faculty member for the Duke School of Nursing. She is a member of the American Nurses Association and the co-chair of the ANA Nursing Practice Standards and Guidelines Committee.
