Facilities building parking lot closes for excavation of the new SoM Learning Center

posted February 1st, 2011

Excavation for the new School of Medicine Learning Center will begin on Wednesday, February 2, 2011.

In order to start excavation, the Facilities Building Parking Lot will close to all vehicle access. The lot will close permanently on Tuesday, February 1 at 6:00 p.m.

Pedestrians will be able to walk from the temporary walkway which runs between Duke Hospital and Duke Clinic and exit out the door from the Duke Clinic concourse and follow the wooden sidewalk to the Key shop, Procurement, Training, the Wireless Office and the Duke Card Office until those departments have completed their moves in early February. Once all tenants have vacated the building, the Facilities Building will be prepped for demolition to begin.

Coal Pile Drive road access to the Searle Center will remain. The traffic on the road to the Hospital loading dock will not be interrupted at any time throughout the construction. The upper Coal Pile Drive road to the Facilities Building will be closed to all traffic. The parking spaces in front of the Duke Card Office will remain open for limited Service traffic, for construction traffic and for coal deliveries only.

No vehicles will be able to enter the Facilities Building parking lot as of Tuesday, February 1 at close of business. A fence and guard will be placed at the Facilities Building wall.

We appreciate your patience as Duke Medicine continues to grow.
