GME’s Tammy Tuck receives Susan B. Clark Award
posted February 14th, 2011Tammy Tuck, administrator in Duke University Hospital’s Office of Graduate Medical Education, received the Susan B. Clark Administrative Leadership Award from Chancellor Victor J. Dzau, M.D., during a Jan. 19 luncheon attended by friends and colleagues.
Tuck was honored for her more than 25 years of work assisting in the education of thousands of medical residents and fellows at Duke. Tuck arrived at GME out of high school as an office clerk and quickly ascended the ladder of responsibility.
In presenting the award to Tuck, Dzau spoke of the excellence exemplified by Duke Medicine’s administrative staff leaders and how they follow the example of the award’s namesake, who rose over a three-decade career from clerk-typist to a high-level support role for the Duke University Health System Board of Trustees.
“Tammy deserves this award because she has shown the qualities exemplified by Susan Clark during her remarkable career at Duke,” Dzau said, who established the award in 2007. “Each day, she shows leadership, dedication to the institution, service to others and personal strength of character.”
Tuck, who also received a plaque and $550 toward a weekend getaway, said she was honored.
“Duke is an awesome place to learn and a breeding ground for growth,” she said. “I am so appreciative of all my time here and of the people with whom I have the privilege to work.”
