Harrison N. Jones, Ph.D., assistant professor in the Division of Speech Pathology and Audiology in the Department of Surgery, recently received the designation of Board Recognized Specialist in Swallowing and Swallowing Disorders.

The American Speech-Language Hearing Association -- the association that grants basic certification to all Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs) as an entry level requirement for clinical practice -- began this specialty recognition program in 1995. There are approximately 122 people nationwide who hold the BRS-S certification. Jones is one of only three in North Carolina.
