2009 Start! Heart Walk a success
posted September 30th, 2009It was another beautiful day for the annual AHA Start! Heart Walk, held September 27th at the RBC Center in Raleigh. Duke Medicine once again was a cosponsor of the event that gathers thousands of people for a 3-mile walk to raise money for cardiovascular research. To date the Duke Medicine team has raised $65,000

The Duke Medicine team – more than 850 employees and their families registered to walk – were in great spirit and blue T-shirts, enjoying the opportunity to walk for “your heart and everyone in it.”
Christopher O’Connor, M.D., director of Duke Heart Center, spoke at the opening ceremony, encouraging everyone to live healthy lifestyles and to walk – taking the stairs instead of the elevator, and parking at the far
end of a lot -- whenever possible.
Duke Medicine also brought the mobile catheritization lab and a Duke LifeFlight ambulance on display, as well as cardiovascular screening tent and an nutritional and safety information tent.
