Hospice fundraiser aids new family communications center

posted November 4th, 2008

The Duke Hospice Development Office is hosting an Evening of Wine and Dance at 8 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 8, at Dance Plus, 2408 Guess Road in Durham.

The event will fund a new family communications center for families of patients at the new hospice on Roxboro Road.

The event will feature a dance exhibition by Inga and Robertas of Dance Plus and wines by Ken Rosati of Centerba Selections.

Admission is a $100 donation to hospice.

The center will be in memory of Dorothy Gianturco’s late husband, Dr. Daniel Gianturco, a former professor emeritus of psychiatry and an associate dean of the School of Medicine.

For information or to make a reservation, call Danielle Irving at Hospice 620-3853.

Dorothy Gianturco said she was inspired to help while her husband was a patient at the facility: “I spent my evenings using my laptop computer to keep family and friends updated on his condition.  Other families of patients asked to use my computer for the same purpose.  So, I’m doing a fund raiser for a family computer and communication center at the new hospice on Roxboro Road. For me it is an opportunity to fill a need from my own personal experience.”
