Jarvis among newest HHMI investigators
posted June 5th, 2008
Researcher Erich Jarvis, Ph.D., has been selected as one of 56 newest Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) investigators, selected from over 1,000 applications. Through this program, the HHMI identifies highly creative investigators at distinguished universities, research institutes, and medical schools across the United States who span the full range of leading-edge biological and biomedical research.
With this appointment, Jarvis will receive research funding from HHMI for a period of five years.
Jarvis has made great strides toward discovering the evolutionary roots of vocal communication by studying how birds learn and retain songs, with ultimate hopes at applying this knowledge to help people with speech problems.
“With this award I hope to excel even further and help benefit Duke as well,” said Jarvis.
