Judd W. Moul, M.D., FACS, James H. Semans, M.D., professor of surgery, chief of the Division of Urology and director of the Duke Prostate Center, is one of only three physicians nationally who received a 2009 Clinical Excellence Award from Castle Connolly Medical Ltd.
The award recognizes physicians who exemplify excellence in clinical medical practice.
Earlier this year, Moul was elected to a three-year term on the board of directors of the National Association for Continence, and at the 56th-annual Kimbrough Urological Seminar in Washington, D.C., former Sen. Bob Dole thanked Moul for helping to care for him from 1991-2004 related to his prostate cancer treatment.
Moul serves on the editorial boards of Urology, Brazilian Journal of Urology and World Journal of Robotic Surgery, and is co-editor of Prostate Cancer and Prostatic Diseases. He has published more than 500 medical and scientific manuscripts and book chapters and has lectured at national and international meetings.
Moul’s honors include the 1995 American Medical Association Young Physicians Section Community Service Award for his national involvement in prostate cancer patient support groups, the 1996 Sir Henry Welcome Research Medal and Prize from the Association of Military Surgeons of the United States, and selection as a 1994 Fellow for the American Urological Association/European Association of Urology International Academic Exchange Program. In 2006, Moul was selected as chairman of the newly founded American Urological Association Foundation Education Council.
