Orchestra forming for DUHS employees

posted August 16th, 2010

All DUHS employees who are also musicians are welcome to apply. The orchestra will comprise medical students and faculty along with DUHS employees. Auditions will be held for placement in early September.

Rehearsals are two hours on Sunday evenings during the academic year and will be held at Bone Hall at the School of Music. There will be a public concert at the end of the fall and spring school semesters. A membership fee of $25.00 per semester covers basic operating costs.

The conductor, Verena Moesenbichler-Bryant, is from Austria and has a DMA in conducting. In addition to conducting the Duke Medicine Orchestra, she is the director of the Duke University Wind Symphony, visiting assistant professor of the practice of music at Duke University and is the executive director of World Youth Wind Orchestra Project (WYWOP).

Supported by Health Arts Network at Duke and the Multicultural Affairs Office at Duke Medical School, the orchestra is modeled on the Life Sciences Orchestra at the University of Michigan.

If you are interested in being a member of the orchestra, e-mail Erin Dangler, HAND Performing Arts Coordinator, at: erin.dangler@duke.edu.
