Ellen F. Parks, RN, OCN, CNIV, nurse clinician, is one of 11 outstanding cancer care providers to receive the 2011 American Cancer Society (ACS) Lane Adams Quality of Life Award.

Parks received the award for going above and beyond her duties as a nurse clinician. Through her compassionate care, she considers her patients friends and strives to help every patient get the best care possible. Familiar with many ACS programs, Parks is able to provide information immediately upon hearing about patient needs.

Parks has been a champion volunteer with the American Cancer Society for more than 20 years. From 1988 to 2007, she held a variety of leadership positions with the Illinois Division. Since moving to North Carolina in 2007, she has served the South Atlantic Division by chairing the Durham Volunteer Leadership Council, leading a Relay for Life team, promoting the Road to Recovery Program and other ACS services.

Since 1988, the Lane Adams Quality of Life Award has recognized individuals who have made a difference through innovation, leadership and consistent excellence in providing compassionate, skilled care and counsel to persons living with cancer and their families.
