Preminger named Chief of the Division of Urology

Glenn M. Preminger, M.D., has been appointed chief of the Division of Urology at Duke University Medical Center. Preminger joined the Department of Surgery at Duke in 1993 as professor in the Division of Urology, director of the Comprehensive Kidney Stone Center, and director of the Urology Residency Program.

Prior to joining Duke, Preminger was a faculty member at UT Southwestern Medical Center for eight years in the departments of Urology, Medicine, and Radiology. While at UT Southwestern, Preminger was an American Urological Association (AUA) Scholar for two years while in the Division of Mineral Metabolism, concentrating on the medical management of nephrolithiasis.

A national and international expert in his field, Dr. Preminger’s expertise is in minimally invasive management of urinary tract stones, including shock wave lithotripsy (SWL) and percutaneous and ureteroscopic stone removal, as well as comprehensive metabolic evaluation and preventative medical treatment of nephrolithiasis.  

Preminger has had extensive experience in the development of endoscopic instrumentation for minimally invasive urologic procedures and holds eightpatents in shock wave lithotripsy design with fellow SWL expert, Pei Zhong, Ph.D. Recently, Preminger was selected for a distinguished professorship at Duke University and named the James F. Glenn Professor of Urologic Surgery.

Preminger fills the post previously held by Judd Moul, M.D.
