The Geriatric Nursing Innovations in Education Institute

posted March 11th, 2010

The Center of Excellence in Geriatric Nursing Education is offering the newly designed GNIE Institute.

Nurses from across the Triangle Community and surrounding counties can participate in this comprehensive and innovative professional development opportunity.

With our aging population exploding, enhanced gerontology knowledge and skills are essential to assure the best outcomes for the older adult population, whether one's specialty is cardiovascular, oncology, orthopedics or any other adult service.

The cornerstone of the GNIE Institute is the "GNIE Core Curriculum," which targets nurses who wish to increase their knowledge of evidence-based gerontology nursing practice and their ability to promote evidence-based care within their care setting.

Advance practice nurses, educators and administrators are encouraged to consider this intensive learning experience as well.

Educational options have also been developed within and around the GNIE Core Curriculum to meet the more targeted needs of educators and leaders within their agencies. The GNIE Education Curriculum and the GNIE Leadership Curriculum each incorporates a portion of the GNIE Core Curriculum and a separate half day workshop targeted specifically for educators and administrators. Advance practice nurses are also strongly encouraged to explore these options.
