Thomas Owens, M.D., named DUH chief medical officer
posted April 15th, 2010Thomas A. Owens, M.D., has been appointed as chief medical officer of Duke University Hospital, effective immediately.
Owens joined the Duke faculty in July 2000 and is currently an associate professor of medicine and pediatrics.
He serves as director of the Duke Hospital Medicine Programs and as medical director for General Medicine inpatient services. He has received recognition for his work as a clinician educator and leader and is a past recipient of the Samuel L. Katz award (2002), the Eugene A. Stead Award (2004 and 2008) and a Duke University Presidential Award for Executive Leadership (2007).
His academic interests include the application and integration of evidence-based clinical practice, patient safety and clinical quality improvement.
