Dr. Discount: Free Family Fun Day in Duke Gardens

posted September 9th, 2010

Children can see reptiles, build musical instruments, draw and paint with natural materials and even manipulate nature in a free festival Sunday, Sept. 12, at Sarah P. Duke Gardens.

Family Fun Day, which is part of the N.C. Science Festival, will feature an array of nature-related activities hosted by Gardens staff and volunteers and guests from the Nasher Museum of Art, the Duke Lemur Center, the Piedmont Wildlife Center and the N.C. Herpetological Society.

Children can enjoy popular activities from past Family Fun Days, such as building fairy houses, and try new experiments, including feeding a plant water with food coloring to see how it turns different colors.

The event runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Parking is free until 1 p.m. In addition, the Terrace Shop will offer a 20 percent discount Sunday on all children's merchandise for Duke faculty, staff and students with i.d. For more information, go to sarahpdukegardens.org.
