To benefit the Duke Cancer Patient Support Program
On the evening of Friday, October 8, the Duke Cancer Patient Support Program will host The Big Wig Out. This will be an evening of upscale disco, a survivor self-expression catwalk and show, performances by female impersonators, auction, and much more.
This 1970's themed event will benefit Duke Cancer Patient Support Program's Self-Image Program. The Big Wig Out is a fun way to raise funds, but also to celebrate the importance of self-expression for oncology patients.
Come dressed in your best disco attire or in any way that celebrates your self-expression!
Since 1987, the DCPSP has addressed the emotional side of cancer by providing counseling, companionship, and comfort to the patients of the Duke Comprehensive Cancer Center, their families, and the community through our team of staff and volunteers, each of whom is committed to helping patients and families cope with the impact of cancer on their lives. The DCPSP offers family and individual counseling, support groups, and self-image resources. All program services are provided to Duke patients and family members without charge.
Proceeds from “The Big Wig Out” will benefit the DCPSP’s Self-Image Program. The DCPSP provides wigs, hats, turbans, and other self-image items to patients with cancer free of charge. The program also offers self-image education and counseling services. This is made possible by the generosity of the many financial supporters of the DCPSP.
Tickets to The Big Wig Out are $50 and can be purchased through the Duke Cancer Patient Support Office at 919-684-4497.
Performances will include, Paulina Rubyhoe, Kia Lord and Victoria Parker -- Victoria has been featured on the series “RuPaul’s Drag Race” and in the movie “Pagent.” She has also captured the titles of Miss North Carolina FFI, Miss Legends and Miss North Carolina America.
