Live For Life Pumpkin Fun Run

October 23rd, 2010

There will be something fun for every age group at the Duke Pumpkin Fun Run on Oct. 23. The event is sponsored by LIVE FOR LIFE, Duke's employee wellness program.

"The Duke Pumpkin Fun Run is much more than a footrace," said Julie Joyner, manager of LIVE FOR LIFE. "It's an opportunity for employees and their families to be active together."

Race-day registration begins at 8:30 a.m., with the first 300 participants receiving colorful pumpkin fun socks. The 2.9-mile run/walk on the Al Buehler Trail near the Washington Duke Golf Course begins at 9 a.m., followed by the Baby and Toddler Costume Dash at 10 a.m., a line dance mini-clinic, jump castle, pumpkin and face painting, corn-hole toss and Josh Lozoff, a roving magician.

"My kids loved the entertainment at last year's fun run," said Margaret Pendzich, a research analyst in the Department of Community and Family Medicine. "And although I'm not a runner, I enjoyed walking the trail with them and everyone else."

Participation in the Pumpkin Fun Run is free, but a voluntary donation of $2 per participant will benefit Duke's Pediatric Blood and Marrow Transplantation (BMT) program.
