Seminar on pain, spiritual healing

Center for Spirituality, Theology and Health seminar, Nov. 5, noon-1:30 p.m., School of Nursing auditorium, Room 1014.

Sarah Coakley, Ph.D, Norris-Hulse Professor of Divinity at Cambridge, a chair devoted to the philosophy of religion, will present, "Pain and Its Transformations: Meaning, Healing and Spiritual Practice."

Coakley will bring together the results of her collaborative research on pain done at Harvard on the significance of meaning-ascription in the experience and endurance of pain and her theological assessment of this medical research in relation to her own ministerial work in the area of spiritual healing. Central to the analysis will be reflection on the hermeneutics of suffering and its neurophysiological and spiritual implications.
