Celia Cadilla: Going the extra mile for her patients
posted May 28th, 2009Celia Cadilla, radiation oncology nurse, received a Random Act of Kindness award. Her nominator, Mary Ann Robbins, nurse manager, said:
“Celia always goes the extra mile for our patients in radiation oncology. Here are two [recent] examples:
An elderly man who comes to our clinic daily for treatment was extremely short of breath when walking. Celia asked if he ever had oxygen and he told Celia that he does, but that he doesn’t use it because the tank is too large and difficult for him to carry. Celia called the oxygen company and was able to get him a smaller, portable tank. The other day the patient stopped me in the hall looking for Celia. When I told him that Celia wasn’t in that day, he began to tell me how thankful he was for what Celia did to get him the portable oxygen tank. The smile on his face was so big and priceless. I will not forget it for a long time.
The second patient had been changed to MS Contni because his insurance company would not cover Oxycotin. On a routine assessment I told Celia that the new medication was causing him to itch. Celia promptly called the insurance company and obtained authorization for coverage of Oxycotin.
These are two quick examples of Celia’s tenacious personality to ensure that our patients have the equipment or mediation they need that will make their lives better. She has the biggest heart and gives everything she has for not only our patients, but to her coworkers and friends.”
