Clinical Laboratory Support Services: Recognized for their team work

Sitting left to right: Lisa Fakir, Rosalind Watson and Laurrie Minor. Standing left to right: Remi Adams, Charlotte Parker, Benita Wall-Johnson, Tim Akabueze, Crystal Thompson and Malina McCalston

Commended for their caring and compassionate spirit and for a team effort to encourage and support a coworker during a most difficult time.

The Clinical Laboratory Support Services' 2nd and 3rd shift Phlebotomy Team received a quarterly Strength, Hope & Caring Award.

One of the team's employees began to feel ill shortly after arriving at work and went to Duke’s Emergency Department. As the employee waited to see a doctor, they called a coworker and asked for prayer. Although the co-worker who was called was off that evening, the co-worker and a friend came right to the Emergency Department to check on the situation and to pray for their colleague. The following morning, the employee was admitted to the hospital and subsequently diagnosed with a life threatening disease.

The employee is currently on a medical leave of absence. Realizing the emotional and financial hardship an illness can have on a family, CLSS staff continue to be very supportive by staying in contact with the family and presenting them with cards and monetary gifts. The staff of second and third shift have also offered support by donating more than 200 PTO hours so that the family has not had to go without a paycheck through this process.
CLSS 2nd & 3rd shift employees are to be commended for their caring and compassionate spirit and for a team effort to encourage and support a coworker during a most difficult time for the employee and the employee’s family.
