Jean Strickland: Giving 150 percent to patients
posted April 21st, 2009
Jean Strickland, PRMO, received an Administrative Strength, Hope & Caring Award.
We received a letter from a patient who called Jean “one of the greatest professional and most ethical, compassionate, knowledgeable, and determined person one could have ever prayed for to help” her. Despite pleads from her family and due to her lack of insurance, the patient elected to not have a surgical procedure done as she did not want to be a financial burden on anyone. Jean Strickland immediately “saw all of the needs, fought battle after battle to save [her] credit rating, to get assistance from Medicaid, guided us through that maze and prioritized every move necessary to save us all.”
Jean’s supervisor, Belinda Daniel, also submitted a nomination in support of the letter from the patient. Belinda stated that Jean is “an extraordinary person who gives any endeavor 150 percent. Her patient centric infectious ‘can do’ attitude is inspirational to us all. She knows what it means to take a bull by the horn.” Belinda added that Jean returned to work after retiring from the UNC Healthcare system stating that Jean “wanted to be a par of something great and she is”. She stated that Jean’s “compassion and commitment to her patients, her Medicaide eligibility knowledge, professionalism and ‘don’t stop till it’s done’ attitude” make her an invaluable asset to the PRMO. She closed by saying that she believes Jean “would go to the end of the earth to advocate for her patients” and that she is “respected by all who know her.”
