I would like to nominate Jim Bennett for the Strength Hope and Caring Award. As a Regional Administrator, Jim Bennett encompasses the whole spectrum of Strength, Hope and Caring with his level of professionalism and compassion that go above and beyond on a daily basis.

The snippets listed below are nothing to Jim -- just another day at the office. But to our patients and employees, the little acts of kindness that he offers, without thinking about it, make the difference in someone's day. I could take up pages singing Jim's praises, but will offer a few examples of what makes Jim an excellent candidate for this most prestigious award.

Recently, one of our elevators, full of pharmaceutical reps and patients, got stuck on the 5th floor. Jim responded and physically opened the door to get them out, all the while reassuring the patients that they would be fine.

We had a neurology patient who left his medication at the clinic on a Friday afternoon. He lives out of town and could not be reached on his cell phone and a message was left on his home number. Jim waited at the office until he heard from the patient and the patient reassured him that he did have enough meds to get him through the weekend.

We had another neurology patient who arrived for his appointment only to find that the doctor was running so far behind that he would not be seen that day. Jim made hotel accommodations for the patient across the street and made sure the patient was seen first thing the next day.

A patient arrived to clinic, was seen and was afraid that he'd run out of oxygen before he got home. Jim made sure the patient was sent home with oxygen.

Jim received a call last week from a patient from another clinic who had been trying to schedule an appointment but had been repeatedly referred to other numbers. Instead of once again transferring the patient, Jim took the time to schedule the appointment himself and made sure the patient had the correct number for future reference. Another time Jim received a call from a patient who had tried on several occasions to obtain his medical records. Again, instead of transferring the patient, Jim took the bull by the horns, found the records and made sure they were sent to the patient.

Jim is always available to employees and patients and more than willing to help or answer any question presented to him. He is one of the hardest working individuals you will ever meet; his job seems endless yet he always remains enthusiastic and pleasant. His persona is the same whether he is working with the Physicians, PSA's or Managers. He will take the time to solve problems and will not pass it on to someone else. The new Duke Medicine Plaza in Raleigh is a success in part to the extra efforts that Jim has put in to the management of the building.

Finally, the girls up front think he is most deserving of this award because he is the only one who knows how to work the remote on the TV!
