Lucy Marshall: Empathy plus professionalism

Here’s what a colleague says about Lucy Marshall, who works in dietary on the orthopedics unit at Duke Raleigh Hospital:

“Lucy noticed that a patient had not been eating for a couple days. She met with the patient and her husband and expressed her concern to them. She asked about diet alternatives and any other requests that may encourage her to eat. She even spent time with them to fill out the patient’s dietary choices on the menu. Both the patient and spouse were very impressed with her professionalism, compassion, and empathy.”
