Nuris Alli: She’s like gold to staff and patients

Nuris Alli, nursing care assistant at Duke Raleigh Hospital, received the following praise from Mary Kintz, Duke Raleigh Rehabilitation:
"One of the most difficult aspects of a language barrier is trying to mobilize a patient after surgery, particularly when they are in pain and there are specific precautions in how to move them. Trying to gain the patient’s confidence and explain the process is not easy without a "live" interpreter. Today, Nuris Alli was that "live" interpreter, and although she had to care for an entire hall of patients, she was willing to stay with me throughout my treatment, explaining to the patient why I was there and how we were going to work together to get him moving again. It was such a bonus to have a professional who could put both my medical and common sense terminology into words our patient could understand . . . even in the midst of running off to answer other call bells. Nuris was like gold to me today, and I’m sure our patient feels that way, too."
