“A Hotel for Scientists”
posted February 9th, 2010Nicholas Katsanis, Ph.D., Professor in the Departments of Cell Biology and Pediatrics, hopes to tear down the walls between traditional departments and encourage interdisciplinary collaboration.
His specific research interests involve the genetics behind certain rare diseases, like Bartle-Biedl Syndrome. BBS patients often have a wide variety of symptoms, including obesity, renal failure and blindness. Katasanis' investigative approach can be applied to a wide-range of conditions and he hopes his lab will serve as a hub for other Duke researchers who are interested in understanding genetics and disease. Read a full profile of Dr. Katsanis in the February issue of Inside Duke Medicine. In this video, Dr. Katsanis (a.k.a. Nico) describes his vision for his lab.
