Video: Love Auditorium packed for Basic Science Day 2011

On Oct. 10, more than 300 faculty members, post-docs and grad students packed into Love Auditorium to hear presentations on the latest work as part of a celebration of basic science research at the Duke University School of Medicine. The second Basic Science Day featured talks from scientists in each of the eight basic science departments as well as from the clinical departments of Anesthesiology and Radiology. The community-wide nature of the event reach out to the wider university through a presentation from a faculty member of the Department of Biomedical Engineering. The day included remarks by Dean Nancy Andrews, MD, PhD, and Sally Kornbluth, PhD , vice dean for research, as well as keynotes from the new director of the Duke Cancer Institute, Michael B. Kastan, MD, PhD, and the incoming chair of the Department of Neurobiology, Steve Lisberger, PhD. Trainees' work was included in a well-attended poster session which was made up of multiple entries from every basic science department.
