California probes legality of genetic testing

Duke Medicine has teamed with Navigenics, a direct-to-consumer genetic testing company, to offer genetic testing to participants in the Executive Health Program at the Duke Center for Living.

A Wired blog post reveals that the company was one of 13 sent cease-and-desist letters by the California Health Department, saying the tests violate a state law and are prohibited unless ordered by a doctor.
