Construction brings a change in walkway between Duke Clinics and Hospital
posted April 15th, 2011As construction of the Cancer Center facility and Duke Medicine Pavilion continues, a section of the walkway between Duke Clinics and Duke Hospital will change to allow work to continue on the north end of the concourse connecting the buildings.
The section of the walkway from the Mudd Building to Duke Hospital will be impacted.
On Monday, April 18, this elevated section of the walkway will be closed and walking traffic will be re-routed, making a hard right-hand turn into a temporary walkway built within the new Duke Medicine Pavilion.
The route changes taking place this weekend will be clearly marked and will be the only option available. The new temporary pathway will be shielded from the construction still going on inside the Duke Medicine Pavilion.
The switch will allow construction workers to remove the old section of the walkway and begin work on the plaza between the Duke Medicine Pavilion, future Learning Center and the Mudd Building. The walkway change will also allow the new, climate-controlled concourse to connect to the eight-story Duke Medicine Pavilion. Work was also recently done at the south end of the concourse and when completed patients, staff and visitors will be able to walk from the clinics to the cancer center to Duke Medicine Pavilion and the hospital without being outdoors.
