DRAH holds Open House for its transformed Cancer Center

posted July 6th, 2010

Duke Raleigh Cancer Center held an Open House for its new hematology/oncology clinic on June 29.

DRAH staff, patients and friends gathered for the celebration and toured the new clinic.

Doug Vinsel, president of DRAH, spoke at the event.

"We are very much about being the best place to give care and the best place to get care," Vinsel said. "And I think that this center is reflective of that. I am really pleased that we've been able to create an environment here with the right decor, the right functionality, the right spaciousness and that we've been able to incorporate our garden into this. I believe that is one of the things that distinguishes our center, and I'm so proud of the way that this turned out."

The new infusion area offers patients a more comfortable environment and features a glass, back wall that overlooks the Duke Raleigh Gardens.

The new space allows for steady patient flow and equips nurses with the ability to interact and care for patients on a more personal level. Two new private infusion rooms were added to further provide high quality patient care and support the growth of Duke Raleigh's gynecologic oncology program.

The newly improved infusion room is located on the first floor of Medical Office 7 on DRAH's campus.

During the Open House, Vinsel mentioned the commitment of bringing Duke Medicine "closer to you." He says that the new Cancer Center is an example of DRAH ensuring that it measures up to the Duke standard.

"I really do believe that Duke Medicine is a world-renowned organization, and I think that the adjective world class fits," Vinsel said.

He adds that DRAH is very proud to be a part of that world class care.

"We're proud to be adding to the depth and breadth of oncology services here in Wake County."

DRAH is also adding to its surgical oncology services.
