DRAH’s Employee Picnic: A long-time fave for employees
posted May 28th, 2010
Duke Raleigh Hospital held its annual Employee Picnic May 27. Employees from across the campus came out to enjoy lunch catered by McCall's Barbecue and Seafood, music, a farmers market, and much more.
Pamela Taylor, a pharmacist who has been at DRAH for 10 years, says she comes to the picnic every year. She enjoys the "camaraderie and good food."
"I have been here long enough that I've made a lot of friends and it's good to see everyone," Moore said.
The day's events also included a Memorial Day Service with a presentation of the U.S. flag and the Pledge of Allegiance with local Boy Scouts.
Minister Motton Watson (pictured below), the Nutrition Services supervisor, provided words of appreciation in honor of fallen soldiers during the Memorial Day Service. "Always remember that there is a soldier that was here last year, that is not here this year," he said. "We can never forgot the price they pay for our freedom."

Rev. Adrian Dixon, with Spiritual Care, also provided words of remembrance.
Carol Sorochinski, (pictured below) the Materials Management supervisor, played "Taps" at the conclusion of the service.

DRAH employees wrote messages of thanks and honor on a banner that will be sent to soldiers serving overseas. Taylor was one of many employees who took a moment to write a message.

Denise Privette has worked at DRAH for 10 years and been at Duke for 15 years. She says she loves the DRAH culture. That's on of the many reasons she is a member of the Rewards and Recognition team, which host events like the picinic.
"I have awesome coworkers and you can't beat our benefits package,"Privette said regarding her commitment to being at DRAH.
For Gloria Moore, in HR, the picnic is an opportunity to catch up with friends. Prior to her role in HR, Moore worked in Surgery. "I have a new family in HR, but I am still family with the OR team," she said. "I miss them and it's nice to catch up with them on a day like today."
