DRH employees start walking, lose weight together

On Wednesday, April 7, the American Heart Association held its National Start! Walking Day event. This is a national program that encourages employees to adopt a comprehensive walking and nutrition program in order to live healthier, longer lives. Durham Regional Hospital employees participated with a lunch-time one-mile walk around the perimeter of the hospital grounds. See the photo of employees enjoying that walk.

Durham Regional Hospital employees also recently participated in the Shape Up Duke competition — 347 participants (about 20 percent of the hospital's employees) collectively lost 910 pounds, exercised 309,009 minutes, and walked 83,811,722 pedometer steps in the 12 weeks of the competition.

Congratulations to the following Regional winners:

  • Weight Lost — RT 101: Cynthia Newman (Team Captain), Mickey Harris, Chuck Alford, Shelly Womble, Pamela Gassaway, Pamela Bowmans, Mary Glasscock, and Julia Joyner
  • Minutes Exercised — The Radiology Racers: Deborah Lyon (Team Captain), Mindy Allen, Cynthia Franklin, Michael Zollo, Timothy Pulliam and Paula Allen
  • Pedometer Steps Walked — The Mileograms: Amanda Parnell (Team Captain), Alma Lynch, Sarah Hilton, Sharon Lanier, Tammy Ayscue, Joyce Barwick, Shanna Tanksley, Louis Dreyfus and Megan Elliot
