Durham Regional Hospital hosted events to celebrate the holiday season, including an angel tree and food drive, decorating contest and holiday buffet.
The hospital provided gifts for 175 children through the Durham Salvation Army Angel Tree.
The hospital’s annual food drive continues through December 16. Each year, employees bring nonperishable foods to the hospital to support the food drive, which benefits the Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina.
The annual holiday buffet was an opportunity for employees, medical staff, volunteers and retirees to enjoy food and fellowship with co-workers and friends. Served by hospital leadership and the Food & Nutrition department, the buffets were held Thursday, December 9 from 11:15 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. and 4:30 - 6:30 p.m., and on night shift at midnight and during the weekend for both breakfast and dinner.
Departments across DRH had the opportunity to participate in a decorating contest, with the theme “Holiday Memories.” Prizes were given to departments that best represented the holiday theme and an additional award was given for diversity.
The winning teams from the 2010 DRH Holiday Decorating Contest were:
- Durham Rehabilitation Institute (DRI), which won 1st place and the award for diversity. DRI will receive of a pizza party and a plaque.
- Special Services won 2nd place, and will receive an ice cream social.
- Honorable Mention was given to the Emergency Department and Pharmacy, which each won candy for their teams.
