Duke Credit Union says deposits are safe

posted October 3rd, 2008

Amid the wave of news reports that some financial institutions face losses because of their mortgage loan practices, the Duke Federal Credit Union is offering words of reassurance— saying it remains strong and that deposits are safe.

Though some banks are not lending money and are tightening their requirements, the Duke University Credit Union continues to lend money and has not raised lending criteria.

Officials say the Duke Credit Union was not and is not part of the sub-prime mortgage problem and note that funds at Duke Credit Union are federally insured. In addition, the credit union is examined and audited every year.
