posted November 6th, 2008

Give2TroopsDuke Raleigh Hospital is honoring our troops and veterans in two ways this Veterans Day, Nov. 11.

Duke Raleigh Hospital is working with Give2theTroops to donate items our troops need. You can drop off the items at any nursing lounge or departments throughout the hospital. Collections will be accepted until Nov. 11.

Duke Raleigh also will honor past and present service people at 2 p.m. Nov. 11 in the hospital café.

Light refreshments will be served.

For the donations, needed items include toiletries like toothpaste and brushes, soap, Chapstick, razors and shave cream, sunscreen, first aid supplies, foot powder, moleskin, snack items in boxes and cans, protein items such as jerky, and tuna and chicken in pouches, trail mix, nuts, dried fruits, candies, coffee, presweetened powdered drink mixes, socks, underwear, sunglasses, insect repellent wipes, board games, DVDs, and CDs.

Soldiers also love to receive cards of thanks and drawings from children.

Please place several items in a quart size zip-top plastic bag. Try to use snack-size bags for anything that has odors or may spill. Flip tops on liquids and gels should be taped and bagged.

Items not accepted include home-baked food, glass bottles or jars, aerosol cans or sprays, expired food, canned food, lighters, matches or lighter fluid, hotel samples, or VHS tapes.

If you have a question, call: Mairead Alcorn (x 3123), Kathy Parker (x 3022) or Susan Coleman (x 5703)
