Employees benefit from program at Diet and Fitness Center

posted September 17th, 2010

A group of employees have developed healthier lifestyles through the Duke Diet & Fitness Center's weight loss program for employees.

Durham Regional Hospital's Sue Greenberg, director of Health Information Management and Jonathan Hoy, divisional chief financial officer, along with Mike Lazar, associate controller for DUHS, participated in the program together and found their team approach was a key to their success.

Mike shares that he and Jonathan have had some initial success with weight loss using other tools, but they were not able to maintain their weight. Mike says the "supportive environment" at the center and among their team made a big difference for him.

Jonathan has lost 100 pounds since beginning the program at the Diet & Fitness Center. He says this time it was "really about becoming healthy."

Sue says, "There is a lot of flexibility for an employee, in particular, to work this program."

"There is something here for everybody to learn," she adds.

The next employee session will begin on October 25 and run through November 20.
