Keeping the ORs sterile: A special team gets the job done
posted September 16th, 2009Take a look behind the scenes look at how Duke Hospital’s ORs are kept sterile.
A big part of the process is turning the room over for the next operation. That’s were the teamwork of the whole process shines through.
In this video, Hope Dymek, RN, and Heidi Williams, CST, prepare an OR for the first operation of the day. They explain the daily process of making the rooms ready for multiple patients.
The beginning of the day for each OR and team is a crucial time. “Having things prepared for the day, before the first patient ever rolls in, really helps in getting things turned over,” Williams said.
The turn-over process often begins even before the patient leaves the OR, Dymek said.
