This story features the unprecedented double transplant that saved 16-year-old Laura Margaret Burbach’s life.
"It was transplant or death," said David Zaas, M.D., medical director of Lung Transplant.
When asked what led to the decision to try something never tried before, Zaas replied: "Until you meet her, until you saw how strong her personality was, and her desire to live…if anyone can survive this, she could probably do it."
