posted January 20th, 2010
Based on the film “Extraordinary Measures,” which opens this next week, this video highlights Duke research that led to the development of a drug to treat Pompe disease – the disease at the center of the movie.
“It’s like providing insulin to a patient with diabetes,” said Priya Kishnani, M.D., a pediatric geneticist at Duke who is the world’s leading expert on Pompe. “For someone with Pompe disease, it’s providing that missing enzyme.”
