Meet a Great Nurse: Juanita Fisher
posted August 11th, 2010Juanita Fisher, RN, a clinical nurse II in Radiation Oncology at Durham Regional Hospital, is one of nine DUHS nurses named a Great 100.
Juanita has been a nurse at DRH since 1988 and says she feels at home there. She currently helps patients understand the process of radiation therapy.
She says what she likes most about nursing is the "fact that you make such a difference in peoples' lives."
"I feel like at the end of the day if I go home, and I have helped at least one patient understand what they're there for and that somebody does care what happens to them, then I've made an impact on that patient's life, which impacts my life and it makes me feel good," she says.
"In essence that's why I chose nursing and that's what I like about it," she adds.
"I always have the ability through the initial contact with a patient to offer a smile, empathy or just understanding," Juanita says. "That makes the biggest difference from the patient end as well as being on the giving end."
