posted February 24th, 2010

Fourth year med student Carolyn Horney describes how she balanced the stress of med school while her husband was deployed in Afghanistan.

Ever wonder what it's like to attend medical school at Duke? A new web series, Meet Duke Med Students, will feature interviews with the diverse and dedicated students attending the School of Medicine, giving insight into their daily lives, research projects and future plans.

In this video, 4th year student Carolyn Horney describes how she came to Duke and how she balanced her coursework with the stress of her husband's deployment to Iraq and Afghanistan. "The best way I can describe the way people handle stress or pressure is like a glass of water. With him being gone, my glass was full about 70 percent all the time," says Horney. She credits the friends she made in med school early on for helping get her through.
