Memorial Day service set for May 26 at North

posted May 21st, 2009

usa-flagA Memorial Day service will be held from noon until 12:30 p.m.  May 26 in the Duke North courtyard near the cafeteria to honor those who have died serving their country. (Rain location: Duke South, Green Zone, Room 224)

Victor Dzau, M.D., chancellor for health affairs and CEO of  DUHS, says it’s important not to let economic worries overshadow the holiday’s true significance.“With all that is going on in this country, and throughout the world, related to the economic and financial crises, there is a temptation to slip into a singular focus on these issues and how they are impacting each of us and our families.

“No doubt these are stressful times that demand we pay special attention as to how we plan and address them, but I’d encourage all of us to take the opportunity during this Memorial Day weekend to express, in our own ways, our appreciation to those who have given the ultimate sacrifice in serving our country and defending our freedom.

“And, of course, there are still many, many Americans—some of whom are relatives of our co-workers and colleagues—who are still in harm’s way who we can support with our thoughts and prayers.

“Have a wonderful weekend and please take a moment to join with me in remembering those in our armed forces and their loved ones.”
