New Duke directories arriving; recycle old ones

posted January 6th, 2009

The Duke University Office of Information Technology (OIT) will distribute new Duke phone directories and accept old phone books for recycling at designated locations on Jan. 7 and 8.

Drop off old phone books and pick up 2008-09 directories from 9 a.m. -4 p.m. each day.

The 2008-09 Duke phone directory has about 500 pages of telephone listings for faculty and staff, departmental listings, a campus map, coupons and yellow pages. Verizon directories also will be available upon request.

New directories and recycling bins will be available at the following locations:

  • East Campus Student Center (lobby by the post office)
  • East Duke Building lobby
  • Bryan Center (ground level by McDonald’s)
  • LSRC Building B lobby
  • Telcom Building basement
  • Hanes House lobby
  • Sands Building lobby
  • DCRI - Pratt Street, service elevator lobbies (on loading dock)
  • Hock Plaza, mailrooms on second and ninth floors
  • Hospital North, PRT lobby
  • Hospital South, basement of Red Zone
  • PDC/PRMO, main lobby
  • American Tobacco Campus, Duke OIT, Strickland Building

Recycling phone books is one way the Duke community can contribute to the university’s environmental sustainability initiative and reduce Duke’s impact on the environment, said Janice Jordan, recycling and distribution coordinator.

Recycled phone books are made into products such as animal bedding, home insulation, bathroom tissue, cereal boxes, roofing shingles, and new phone books.

A limited number of Duke phone directories will be available on CD at a later date. For more information, contact Duke OIT at directories-concerns@duke.edu.
