Nursing program gets 10-year accreditation
posted November 11th, 2008Duke University School of Nursing’s ABSN (Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing) program has received its first 10-year accreditation, the maximum accreditation an established program can receive.
The accreditation, by the Collegiate Commission of Nursing Education, came with no recommendations for improvements or focus areas of concern.
It signifies that the ABSN program is meeting the essentials of baccalaureate nursing education, as identified by the American Association of Colleges of Nursing.
Accreditation also signifies that the ABSN’s outcomes are at the highest level and that the continuous quality improvement program established for the ABSN curriculum meets the rigorous criteria for on-going evaluation.
The program was accredited for a shorter period several years ago before the first class graduated —also with no recommendations for improvement. This was the first time it was eligible for a 10-year accreditation.
