Persistence pays off with new drug for gout

Michael Hershfield, M.D., professor of rheumatology and immunology, and John Sundy, M.D., rheumatologist, are featured in an article in The News & Observer about a new drug for gout.

The drug, developed at Duke over the last 15 years, is for people who are unresponsive to current treatment options.

“My goal from the very beginning was to provide treatment for people who had absolutely nothing else,” Hershfield said.
