posted October 14th, 2008

Here’s a reminder: The Personal Rapid Transit (PRT) electric tram between the North and South buildings of Duke University Medical Center will be retired on Oct. 15.

Click below for a list of alternate transportation options.

Here are some alternate transportation options:

  • Walking - The covered walkway between North and South will remain open.
  • H-5 shuttle bus – Shuttle buses leave every 15 minutes. For a detailed schedule, click here.
  • Electric vehicle - Co-workers and visitors who cannot walk long distances may ride on an electric vehicle traveling between a new pick-up point in the walkway to the CaRL Building at North and Entry 11 (Blue Zone) at South.
  • SafeRides operates from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. nightly. To request service, call 684-SAFE (7233). For more information, click here.

Patient transport by wheelchair vehicle or ambulance should be requested through the transport dispatcher at 681-2400.

Please assist your co-workers and our patients in understanding their options for traveling between North and South. Employees with questions about the PRT shutdown and patient transport options should contact prtcommu@mc.duke.edu.

Please note: PRT service between North and Parking Garage II is unaffected.
