Schedule changes start for electric vehicles
posted March 16th, 2009Today is the day the schedule changes for electric vehicle service between Duke Hospital North and Duke Hospital South.
The change means electric vehicle service will be available between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, but that evening and weekend service will no longer be available.
The electric vehicles helped replace the Personal Rapid Transit tram, which was retired in October 2008. But based on low-ridership statistics on nights and weekends, the electric vehicle service schedule will change as of today.
Other options include:
- Walking. The covered walkway between North and South remains open and accessible.
- H-5 shuttle bus. Shuttle buses leave every 15 minutes. For a detailed schedule, see: http://siren.auxserv.duke.edu/parking/MedCtr/H5.htm
- Electric vehicle. Employees who cannot walk long distances can ride on an electric vehicle traveling between the pick-up point in the walkway to the CARL Building at North and Entry 11 (Blue Zone) at South. For a refresher on how the service works and how to get to the pick-up locations, please view the following video: http://insidedukemedicine.org/home/2008/10/15/electric-video-ride-along/
- SafeRides operates from 5 p.m.-7 a.m. every day. To request service, call 684-SAFE (7233). For more information, visit: http://siren.auxserv.duke.edu/parking/saferides/saferides.htm
