School system video features Meliones, daughter

A new Durham Public Schools video highlighting children’s care at Duke Hospital features Alex Meliones (above, right) , daughter of Jon Meliones, M.D., who also is featured.
Alex received a grant to create a communications poster to better inform parents about what’s going on with their children’s care at Duke.

The poster was a highlight of the Jan. 5 ribbon-cutting for the new pediatric cardiology intensive care unit (PCICU). The $7 million, 13-bed facility is the first of its kind in the state—a separate, distinct facility wholly dedicated to young heart patients who need intense, interdisciplinary care.
At 6,200 square feet, it increases by 50 percent Duke Hospital’s capacity to take care of the most critically ill children at a time of increasing need for space and demand for surgical procedures.
